      CELEBRATING KINGSTON’S NEW HOUSING AND HEALTH CARE HUB

      There was a lot to celebrate on Queen Mary Road in Kingston last month! A former long-term care home has found a new purpose, bringing transitional housing, health care and community support together under one roof.

    There's a lot to celebrate when an existing building finds a new purpose, especially when that purpose makes a meaningful difference in people's lives!Last month, Kingston's 315 Queen Mary Road celebrated its grand opening, marking the transformation of a former long-term care home into a shared-care facility bringing transitional housing, health care and community support together under one roof.The facility includes 33 transitional housing units operated by Home Base Housing, offering older adults who have experienced homelessness a place to find stability and support while working towards permanent housing. It's also home to the Midtown Kingston Health Home, operated by Kingston Community Health Centres, providing access to primary care for residents and the wider community.Our team provided mechanical and electrical engineering for the renovation, tackling the challenges of adapting an aging building to meet the different operational needs and safety requirements of residential and clinical spaces.Our own Derek Reid joined the grand opening celebrations alongside the City of Kingston, project partners and local service providers. By the time of the celebration, the transitional housing program had already welcomed 26 people, a wonderful reminder of the real impact behind the work.It's rewarding to see an existing building begin such an important new chapter, and we're grateful to have played a part in bringing these much-needed services to our Kingston community!#EngineeringExcellence #YGK #OntarioConstruction ...

    Last week, our teams from London, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Kingston traded their usual routines for a full day together in downtown Toronto.We kicked things off with a Conundrum Outdoor Adventure that sent teams across the city to tackle a series of challenges, with new tasks appearing throughout the afternoon. It was a great excuse to mix up the usual groups, work with people we may not see every day, and have some fun along the way.After all that time outside the team moved over to Toronto's BATL Grounds with axe throwing, archery, good food, and plenty more time to catch up. Later, we had an all hands presentation centred on one of our core values, We Pursue Better. Canadian Olympian and 11-time national boxing champion Mandy Bujold joined us as our guest speaker, sharing her perspective on perseverance, growth, and continuing to push for better.With our team spread across three offices, getting this many people together in one place does not happen often. That made the day feel especially worthwhile, and gave everyone a chance to reconnect outside the usual calls, deadlines, and project work.#EngineeringExcellence #LDNOnt #YGK #KWAwesome ...

    A new incoming water main, heavy-duty trench drainage, a new addressable fire alarm system and expanded emergency power are all taking shape at Hayter’s Farm in Dashwood. Earlier this month, our team was back on site as Phase 2 of construction continued. Our work also includes the building-side engineering that supports process systems, coordinating water, power, gas and other MEP requirements alongside plumbing, HVAC, fire protection and electrical design. For more than 75 years, Hayter’s Farm has been part of the Dashwood community, today employing more than 150 people and supporting local health care, youth organizations and food banks.     With the amount of school-related work we get to be part of, back-to-school season feels like a year-round event around here. Our latest visit to St. Peter Catholic Elementary School in Tecumseh was a good reminder of why we enjoy this kind of work.The school’s mechanical renewal is now visibly taking shape, with new boilers operational and major rooftop and domestic hot water equipment in place. Behind that progress is the less-visible challenge of fitting new systems into an existing building, working around the infrastructure already there and making sure the new mechanical equipment has the electrical support it needs.We do a lot of this kind of work for school boards across Ontario, and that experience adds up. Every building comes with its own quirks, constraints and history, which is exactly what makes renewal work interesting. It is always satisfying to see a design move off the page and start becoming part of the school itself.#EngineeringExcellence #OntarioSchools #OntarioConstruction ...
