Kingston’s Carpenters Union Local 249 needed a facility that could support hands-on training, instruction, and community use in a single, cohesive space. Working with Shoalts and Zaback Architects Ltd., the project team delivered an award winning mass timber building that reflects the craft at the heart of the trade while providing the systems needed for a safe and supportive learning environment.![]()
Our team designed the mechanical and electrical systems that keeps the centre operating effectively, from ventilation in the high-bay shops to the power and lighting that serve each instructional area. The result is a purpose built facility that helps members learn, refine their abilities, and build the skills that shape the future of the trade.![]()

VRF and air source heat pump design gets more interesting once you look past the headline winter rating. As Mechanical EIT Luke Reist points out in this clip, the real performance story often shows up in the near-freezing conditions where frost builds quickly and defrost cycles start to matter.
Those moments can influence comfort and capacity more than the coldest day of the year, which is why our team pays close attention to how equipment behaves in all operating conditions. Understanding that part of the curve and the manufacturer's mitigation strategies helps design teams stay ahead of seasonal performance issues and gives owners a clearer picture of what to expect.

London’s BMO Centre has become one of the busiest indoor sports destinations in Southwestern Ontario, but its story began with a challenging brownfield site and an ambitious vision for year-round recreation.![]()
Our team supported both the original facility and the later expansion, providing mechanical and electrical design that shaped the fields, support spaces, concession, and life-safety systems the centre depends on today. From ventilation strategies for large athletic volumes to lighting, distribution, and fire alarm integration, the work helped create a building that continues to serve thousands of athletes and families every year.![]()
