We had a great evening at the Frontenac Heritage Conservation Awards this month, where Callidus Engineering received a Certificate of Appreciation for our mechanical work on Faculty 47 and our own Derek Reid was there on our behalf to accept the award, making it a great moment for our team.

A big thank you to the Frontenac Heritage Foundation for the recognition, and congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. We also want to give a special shout-out to Cityflats and Shoalts & Zaback Architects for their work on Faculty 47 and for the collaborative effort that helped bring new life to the historic Wellington Street School.

Kingston and the surrounding region have a remarkable architectural heritage, and recognitions like this reinforce the value of preserving it. Our work on projects such as Faculty 47 reflects the ongoing balance between honouring historic structures and delivering safe, modern engineering solutions that support how these buildings are used today. Our team is proud to play a role in helping heritage properties remain strong, functional parts of their communities for years to come.

Working on heritage properties also requires a thoughtful and experienced approach. Older buildings often include legacy systems, limited space for new infrastructure, and strict requirements for maintaining original features. Our team’s expertise allows us to design mechanical and electrical solutions that meet today’s safety and performance expectations while respecting the character and constraints of the buildings themselves.
