The project was the new construction of a single storey VIA rail station. The project features a curved translucent roof structure for a large portion of the roof area. The facility was required to be designed to incorporate green technologies for the mechanical and electrical systems. The design uses geothermal source heat pumps for heating and cooling, and provisions were made for a future roof mounted, solar PV array. The array for the roof required special co-ordination with the curved roof structure and the translucent panels of the roof to prevent shadows on the panels and maximize the solar intensity.
