INTEGRATED SYSTEMS TESTING
Integrated Systems Testing (IST) is the full-building analysis that proves fire alarm, sprinklers, emergency power, elevators, smoke control, and other life-safety systems respond together as designed.
Required by Ontario Building Code 3.2.9.1 and directed by CAN/ULC-S1001, IST must be completed, documented, and accepted by building and fire departments before occupancy is granted.
Callidus Engineering provides ULC S1001 Integrated Systems Testing services in Ontario, ensuring your project achieves building system functionality and code compliance without delays.

With more than one hundred successful IST projects since 2021, our
approach has been trusted across new construction projects,
high-rise buildings, and retrofit upgrades throughout Ontario.
AVOID PERMIT ISSUES
Ensure all IST requirements for building permit applications are satisfied before you apply.
NAIL DOWN “YOUR” COSTS
Know the cost of Integrated Systems Testing upfront—avoid last-minute scrambling to find a certified provider.
STAY ON SCHEDULE
Reduce delays in receiving your permits and occupancy at the end of the project
DELAYS HURT
Budget overruns happen fast. Use this tool to measure the daily cost of pushing IST down the line.
Info
Calculates overrun cost by dividing budget by the planned days (months × 30) to get a daily rate, then multiplying that rate by the number of days over budget. For demonstration purposes only. Not representative of actual real-world costs.
LEAVING IST TOO LATE MEANS:
- Delayed occupancy while trades rush to prepare
- Idle crews and rentals driving up costs
- Extra charges for lifts, temp heat, and supervision
- Penalties for missed turnover dates
- Rejected paperwork from inspectors
- Repeat testing if certification isn’t accepted
PLAN IST EARLY TO GAIN:
- IST cost priced upfront, no surprise fees
- Trade dates secured early, no overtime rates
- Draft plan in permit set, inspectors satisfied early
- Issues solved on paper, not behind ceilings
- One clear test script keeps every crew aligned
- Signatures ready, hand-over stays on schedule
DON’T LEAVE OCCUPANCY UP TO CHANCE
When your building needs Integrated Systems Testing, your timeline and budget can’t afford disorganization or half measures. Our understanding of the costs and benefits means our ULC‑certified Integrated Testing Coordinators work beside the mechanical and electrical team through the process, weaving the cause‑and‑effect matrix into the process and carrying it through commissioning. We flag integration points in submittal reviews, prepare a clear test sequence, and lock in trade dates that match commissioning milestones making sure everything happens on schedule and according to plan.
WHEN TO START INTEGRATED SYSTEMS TESTING
Start IST planning at the first project meeting, before tender if possible, or as soon as trades are engaged. Building the test plan early allows designers to weave cause-and-effect sequences into drawings, secures trade availability months in advance, and gives inspectors confidence that the project is on track.
The payoff is a smooth hand-over: systems are ready, documentation is complete, and Integrated Systems Testing supports a timely occupancy permit. Delay the process and you risk premium rush fees, calendar clashes, and move-in delays.
Choose Callidus Engineering for Integrated Systems Testing and commissioning support across Ontario — handled with the same care and attention as the systems we’re testing.
