Last month our own Peter Ketelaars recently travelled to Clyde River, Nunavut, as construction of the new Nattiqsuqtiit Multi-Use Facility approached completion. The visit provided an opportunity to see the mechanical and electrical systems designed by our team coming to life throughout the building.

Hydronic heating was operational, with energy recovery ventilators, ductwork, plumbing fixtures and water storage systems in use. Power, lighting, controls and life-safety systems were also nearing completion as work progressed toward turnover.

The facility was created to advance Inuit-led stewardship of Tallurutiup Imanga. With workshops, research and office space, a gallery and food-preparation areas, it will provide local Nattiqsuqtiit staff with a dedicated base for their work and for sharing knowledge within the community.

Seeing the facility take shape reinforced the importance of dependable building infrastructure in northern communities. Thoughtful mechanical and electrical engineering will help support its long-term operation in Clyde River’s demanding climate.
