Quinte West OPP:

A Modern Policing Hub Supporting a Growing Community

Located at 3 Dixon Drive in Trenton, the new Quinte West OPP Detachment represents a major civic investment in community safety and public service. Completed in 2020, the purpose-built facility gives the City of Quinte West and its provincial policing partners a long‑term operational home tailored to the needs of a rapidly growing region. With approximately 20,000 square feet of space, dedicated areas for officers and support staff, and on‑site amenities that serve both policing and the public, the detachment strengthens the delivery of essential services across the municipality.

Reflections From Colliers Project Leaders

“I was happy to work with Callidus Engineering on the new Quinte West OPP station. They delivered a well-coordinated mechanical and electrical design that met the demanding requirements of this fast-tracked project. Their team provided practical solutions tailored to the complex needs of the facility, including the detention areas, community spaces, and secure systems. Throughout both design and construction, they were responsive, detail-oriented, and a key contributor to the project’s success.”

Quinte West OPP Challenges and Opportunities

Prior to this development, policing services in Quinte West operated from aging and fragmented spaces that no longer met modern accessibility, operational, or capacity needs. The new detachment provided an opportunity to build a contemporary facility that reflects the growing complexity of police work and the increasing demand for community‑based programs. The design also needed to address the municipality’s long‑term service vision while delivering a durable, flexible building able to support future expansion.

The project included a sizeable community‑oriented program. A large community centre space-approximately 4,800 square feet-was integrated into the development, offering room for meetings, training, public outreach, and local events. The site layout also includes substantial parking capacity, supporting both day‑to‑day operations and community use.

Quinte West OPP Technical Overview

Callidus Engineering’s mechanical and electrical design work on the Quinte West OPP Detachment focused on creating a dependable, adaptable environment that could support a broad spectrum of policing and community functions. It’s a facility designed for continuous operation, resilient performance, and the ability to maintain essential services during unexpected events.

On the mechanical side, the building incorporates systems intended to deliver stable heating, cooling, and ventilation across a wide variety of spaces supporting year-round comfort and reliability. This helps ensure that staff, visitors, and community members experience a controlled and consistent indoor environment.

Electrically, the detachment integrates robust power distribution and lighting strategies that align with the building’s complex mix of uses. As a post disaster building, the facility’s emergency power capability allows operations to continue during outages and reinforces the building’s role as a dependable community asset.

This project also reflects the depth of Callidus Engineering’s experience with public-sector and safety-focused buildings. Our team brought forward practical, well-coordinated solutions that met the City of Quinte West’s expectations for a modern, community-oriented policing hub.

Looking Ahead

Since opening, the Quinte West OPP Detachment has become a central pillar of community safety in the region. The building supports a wide range of policing services-including patrol, investigations, community liaison programs, and specialized units-and accommodates a large complement of officers and civilian members. Its community spaces allow for local engagement by giving residents a dedicated place to access services, attend events, and participate in safety programs.

The project stands as an example of how thoughtful public infrastructure can serve both operational needs and community wellbeing. It reinforces the City of Quinte West’s commitment to long‑term planning and delivers a facility built to support the region for decades to come.
